Second Saturday

Bay 200, Studio #207

Now you must be wondering how to find Carol Simon’s positive, happy and colorful studio, #207 at The Silos Building in the Sawyer Yards Campus, Houston, Texas.

If you have ever been to Sawyer Yards, you know It can be very confusing for visitors to park and to find any of the 350 artists in 5+ building. It’s like finding Where’s Waldo in a sea of buildings and that’s no good. Not only are the studios spread-out but each of the buildings have different configurations. Trying to figure out which confusing doors to enter and the terrible numbering system ( which is NOT intuitive to ANYONE) can be a nightmare on a fun Saturday trip. Hint my studio #207 is on the first floor, not the second.

So, ready for the secret to your success? Do a quick google map search Carol Simon Studio and follow Google map. When you arrive at the front of the Silos building you don’t park quite yet but instead, turn on Winter Street (head for the train tracks and drive down next to them). If your lucky you’ll grab a parallel space or there’s some regular spots just past the loading dock (the main parking lot is around the other side of the building - see below). Head onto the deck on the side of the building near the Silos and train tracks. Look closer towards the actual silos away from sawyer and you’ll find my name on my door. Come inside where I will be welcoming you with open arms!

Main Parking Lot

Great news! Parking is free! There are two main parking lots available for visitors. Main Yard Parking provides direct access to Silver Street Studios, Winter Street Studios, The Silos (where we are located), Art Alley, and SITE Gallery. North Yard Parking provides direct access to Spring Street Studios and Sabine Street Studios (you do not want this one). You need to park either in a parallel space, the regular spots just past the loading dock, or head back further to the Main Yard Parking.

If you’ve parked in the main lot, you’ll see a back door to The Silos building across and a little before artist alley. This purple-y pink door will lead you straight into The Silos building. There are QR codes to help you find the studio you are looking for on the wall. There are nifty directions on each corner or the hallways, look for Bay 200 to head you in the right direction.

However, if you end up inside some buildings those instructions won’t do you much good! First thing is to find out what building you are in and the best way to get to the Silos Building from where you are. Once, you make it into the building use the large map above or find the QR code on the wall to orientate yourself in the building.

Remember #207 does not mean we are on the second floor, instead we are located on the first floor.
